"Conversations With My Dad"

Year of production: 2015

I’ve never gone this far before -- with anything that I’ve written. As a freelance writer, I usually complete a script, then go through the long, agonizing slog of trying to get it sold -- with the daunting (and as of yet unsuccessful) first step of securing representation. But showing proof of concept for a TV pilot by shooting scenes? Never. Even with my 15+ years experience as a producer in the television industry, it never crossed my mind. That is until a good friend and colleague made the crazy suggestion. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Still, shooting 'scenes' of a not yet greenlit TV pilot? This was definitely new to me. Definitely a BIG step outside of my comfort zone.

But what came from a couple months of preparation and a few long, hard days of shooting was something truly special and memorable. With the help of some genuinely great friends and colleagues, we produced 'proof' that 'Placed' will be a strong, viable, and engaging series one day ... and hopefully very very soon.

‘Conversations With My Dad’ are short clips that tell the 'Placed' story through simple dialogue between my lead character Melea Tate and her father Sam. The exchange primarily touches on Melea’s internal conflicts – of the difficult things she must do to protect innocent people from becoming victims of ruthless killers.
